Since this play by A.R. Gurney is the next one I must read, I invite the theater forum to join in. We'll see if the reading club can revive.

So, get to your library or your favorite theatre bookstore, get a copy of THE COCKTAIL HOUR, and join us here next week to discuss.

So, did anybody read THE COCKTAIL HOUR, yet?

I finished it last night. It's a very well written comedy of family dynamics. It is not raucously comic, but gently humorous. The insistent harping on past grievances when adult children come home for dinner with the parents got me thinking. How did people explain their shortcomings to themselves and everyone else, in the days before Freud made it popular to blame the problems of our lives on the mistakes of our parents?

Same as they do today. They got drunk and set fire to neighboring villages.
