OCC THEATRE COMPANY PRESENTS MOLLY SWEENEY AT MANCINI HALL
The Ocean County College Fine Arts Center is closed for construction, but the shows go on off-campus!
The OCC Theatre Company presents "Molly Sweeney" on Thursday to Saturday, March 6, 7, 8 at 8:00 p.m.; and Saturday, March 8 and Sunday, March 9 at 2:00 p.m. at Mancini Hall, Ocean County Library, Toms River branch.
From one of Ireland’s best living playwrights, Brian Friel, "Molly Sweeney" is a striking piece of dramatic writing and a daring piece of theatre. Deceptively simple, yet richly multilayered, Friel combines both an insightful story about the way we perceive our existence with an allegory for our times.
The play’s three characters are on stage at all times to speak directly to the audience, presenting three points of view to the same intriguing tale. Molly, blind since she was an infant, tells of her world before and after an operation to try to restore her sight. Molly’s husband, itinerant champion of good causes, talks of his passion to help her. Her once-famous eye-surgeon sees the operation as his chance to reclaim his reputation. Their voices interweave, spinning a lush and sensitive narrative, and carrying us effortlessly to an unexpected and poignant conclusion.
Tickets: $12 in advance/$15 at-the-door.
