“Fiorello!”
Music by Jerry Bock
Lyrics by Sheldon Harnick
Book by Jerome Weidman & George Abbott

Fiorello! is the story of that short, dumpy, gruff-voiced, dynamic, colorful, and provocative politician that was Fiorello LaGuardia. Elected Mayor of New York, Fiorello was an unconventional politician: thoroughly honest and well loved by the people. The musical begins with his life in the private practice of law. His clients are, for the most part poor and oppressed - in fact, anyone unable to pay their bills. LaGuardia announces that he intends to run for Congress and wins in a district that no Republican has ever carried. Fiorello reads comics to the children on the radio when the newspapers are on strike, and wins over the people against all odds. The musical traces his life and career as a lawyer and a Representative, sees him joust with the corruption that has plagued the city for decades, and concludes with him winning a spot on the mayoral ticket. He is true to his ideals and destroys political chicanery and corruption wherever he finds it. Winner of the 1959 Pulitzer Prize and a Tony for Tom Bosely, Fiorello! is a big old fashioned family musical which we are happy to present just in time for this upcoming political season.
