won a Tony Award, the Drama Critics Circle Award, and the Drama Desk Award for his musical 1776, additional Tony Awards for the musicals Woman of the Year and Titanic, an Academy Award for his screenplay of Father Goose, an Emmy Award for an episode of "The Defenders," and the Mystery Writers of America Award for his film Charade. His other Broadway credits include the musicals My One and Only, Sugar, Two by Two, Kean, and Skyscraper, and his adaptation of Erich Remarque’s Full Circle. Among his many films are Sweet Charity, Mirage, Arabesque, The Taking of Pelham 1-2-3, and Who’s Killing the Great Chefs of Europe? He is currently president of the Dramatists Guild.
