Stuart Vaughan was Artistic Director of the New
York Shakespeare Festival during its inaugural season and returned later to be
its resident director. He headed the resident acting company of the Phoenix
Theatre; was Founding Artistic Director of the Seattle Repertory Theatre and the
Repertory Theatre of New Orleans; and with his wife, Anne, founded and ran the
New Globe Theatre. Mr. Vaughan’s seminal work, "Directing Plays: A
Working Professional’s Method", is among the most widely used guides
to the teaching of directing.
