Jim Jacobs Biography

was born and raised in Chicago where during the Golden Era of rock 'n' roll (1950s-1960s) he was a ''greaser' at Taft High School where he played guitar and sang with such illustrious groups as DDT and the Dynamiters, and Lefty and The ElRays. His curiosity about music soon had him sneaking into the "hot spots" of Chicago's South Side and going to the Maxwell Street area, where he learned to play by sitting in with legendary street singers and blues artists Blind Arvella Grey, Little Water, Doddy Stovepipe and Blind Jim Brewer. Around 1963 he became involved with a local theatre group, where he met Warren Casey. His title role in the midwest premiere of Jimmy Shine earned him a nomination for Chicago's Best Actor of the Year. He appeared on B'way in the Pulitzer-prize whining No Place to Be Somebody. With Warren Casey, he has written Island of the Lost Coeds, a musical satire of the B-movies of the 1950s. He has also written Bats in the Belfry a play in the Grand Guignol style. His latest play is Remember the Night, not yet produced. He lives in CA with his wife Denise and his daughter Christine.
